Working at Rothen Architektur GmbH provided the opportunity to experience this planning culture first-hand, where architectural quality is achieved through the continuous integration of design, technical development, interdisciplinary coordination, and construction.

Professional experience covered a broad range of architectural services, including feasibility studies, architectural competitions, design development, building permit documentation, execution planning, tender documentation, and construction support. Projects ranged from residential developments and public buildings to commercial, industrial, and adaptive reuse projects, offering insight into different project scales, building typologies, and planning challenges.

As responsibilities evolved from Project Architect to Junior Project Manager, the role expanded beyond architectural planning to the coordination of increasingly complex project processes. This included coordinating multidisciplinary planning teams, supporting the integration of specialist consultants throughout the planning process, participating in contractor procurement meetings, reviewing workshop and production drawings, and maintaining regular communication with clients, construction management, and contractors. Continuous involvement during construction through site visits, technical clarification, and coordination of project decisions provided valuable insight into how design intentions are successfully translated into built architecture.

More importantly than individual responsibilities, the Swiss planning culture demonstrated that architectural quality is not the result of a single design decision, but of a disciplined and collaborative process in which every participant contributes to a shared objective. The emphasis on technical precision, clear communication, responsibility, and long-term thinking fundamentally shaped the understanding of architecture as both a creative and organisational discipline.
